About Mezzapica — a legacy built on passion

Mezzapica's story is woven by tradition, passion and a lot of ricotta. Under the tutelage of a renowned Swiss chef, Angelo Mezzapica honed his skills in the heart of Sicily. His journey eventually led him to Australia in 1949, where he founded the Continental Cake Shop in Leichhardt, quickly becoming a cherished figure in the Italian community.

By 1962, Mezzapica Continental Cakes was considered the go-to for authentic Italian cakes, biscuits and pastries. Angelo's nephew, Frank Portelli, then started his apprenticeship there, learning everything his uncle had to show him and eventually purchasing the business.

Since then, Mezzapica has continued to serve Sydney with the authentic recipes handed down by Angelo, and has also introduced new products to complement its standard Italian confections. The bakeshop has also established itself as the go-to place for birthday, wedding and other specialty cakes that not only look stunning, but have the Mezzapica quality taste. From humble beginnings to a beloved brand in Sydney, Mezzapica's dedication to tradition and flavour shines through in every bite.
